You can make an Instagram Reel from an audio-only podcast by turning a short passage into an audiogram: a video that combines the original audio with visuals and captions. You do not need footage of the speakers. PodRescale can create audio-based clips from a processed recording, which you can check and download or send through Review.
This is useful when your show is already recorded in audio and you want a visual clip for social media. An audiogram does not recreate a camera recording or invent footage of the speaker.
Worked example: give the audio a clear point
For this teaching example, imagine a speaker saying:
“We kept lowering the price, but the customer still didn't understand what was included. The useful change was explaining the scope before discussing the number.”
A simple Reel could contain that complete thought, captions that follow the spoken words, and a readable background in the show's colours. Its written caption could be:
A price objection can be a scope question. This conversation explains why making the offer clearer helped more than another discount. Listen to the full episode for the context.
This example is an illustrative edit, not an actual customer result. It shows the difference between the subtitles inside the video and the written Instagram caption. Each needs its own check.
1. Add the audio episode
Open Episodes → Add episode. Use your podcast feed or upload the original MP3, M4A or WAV. Wait for processing to finish. See the upload guide for the complete steps.
Use a recording with clear speech. A clip cannot recover a point that is inaudible in the source. Check processing recovery if the recording fails to process.
2. Find a moment that works by itself
Open the finished episode and choose Clips. Play the audio-based clips available there. Pick one that explains a useful idea without relying on an earlier question or a missing visual.
Listen to the start and ending. A good candidate has enough context to make sense and finishes its point. Avoid selecting a provocative sentence if the next sentence changes what the speaker means.
3. Check the subtitles and the visual style
Play the rendered video. Check names, specialist terms, caption timing and whether the text is easy to read on a phone. Keep important words away from the edges where the destination platform's controls may cover them.
Before processing future recordings, open Settings → Look to choose supported caption styles, colours and visual settings. Check brand settings for the options.
Changing a setting does not immediately remake every existing clip. Editing the social caption does not change words burned into a rendered video. The caption guide explains the difference and the available actions.
4. Write the Instagram caption
Use the planned post in Review to check the written caption. Explain the useful idea, credit the speaker and give a relevant next step. Do not promise a result the clip does not show.
[The useful idea in one sentence.] [Who explains it, and the context from the conversation.] [One takeaway a reader can use.] [Where to find the full episode, if relevant.]
You can download the audio Reel checklist and keep it beside your export folder. It covers the source, captions, visuals, audio, written caption and publishing destination.
5. Download and preview on Instagram
Use the clip's download action to save the video. Open Instagram's Reel composer, add the file and preview it. Check the first frame, cropped edges, captions and audio before publishing.
Use the final file rather than a screen recording of the app preview. If the destination platform rejects it, check the file and its current requirements before trying again. This guide does not require a fixed length that will suit every recording and account.
6. Or publish through a connected account
If you prefer automatic publishing, connect an eligible Instagram destination in Settings → Posting. Availability depends on the account and connection flow; use manual posting if your account cannot connect.
In Review, check the selected account, video, written caption and time, then approve. Open Calendar to verify the scheduled post. Follow the Instagram guide for the full connection and publishing flow.
Common questions
Do I need a video podcast?
No. An audiogram uses your audio with visual elements. A video podcast is needed when you want footage of the speakers themselves.
Why are there no audio clips?
Check processing and rendering status. Very short recordings or recordings with little usable speech may not produce suitable clips. Follow the clip guide for recovery steps.
Can I change a word in the video by editing the post?
No. The post text and rendered subtitles are separate. Inspect the available subtitle or rendering actions before publishing an incorrect video.
Can I use the same file on YouTube Shorts?
You can prepare it for another destination, but preview the file and written caption there too. See YouTube Shorts publishing; suitability is not a guarantee of reach.
Try this with your own recording
